Volunteer Attorney Program

Welcome to the Volunteer Attorney Program!

The VAP seeks to increase access to justice for low-income New Mexicans by connecting pro se clients with members of the private bar. It achieves this goal in two ways: (1) direct case placement with pro bono attorneys through its direct representation program and (2) brief advice and counsel with pro bono attorneys through its legal clinic program. Our direct representation program places cases that are referred to VAP through its community partners. And our legal teleclinics program recruits volunteer attorneys to provide a one-time consultation to qualifying applicants.

In 2022, VAP is hosting statewide legal teleclinics. See our teleclinic schedule below:

February 17 - Volunteers assisted 38 people

March 17 - Volunteers assisted 24 people

April 21 - Volunteers assisted 51 people

May 19 - Volunteers assisted 37 people

June 16 - Volunteers assisted 35 people.

August 18 - Expungement Teleclinic - Volunteers assisted 67 people.

October 20 - We will accept applications between September 15 - 30, or until we have received 80 applications, whichever comes first.

All consultations are by telephone between the hours of 1:00-4:00 p.m.
